On 28 May, Deftones will be playing at La Riviera, the band’s first gig in Madrid in almost fifteen years. One of the most influential alternative rock bands in recent decades will be performing as part of Primavera Tours organised by Primavera Sound.
Having first got together in Sacramento California in 1988, Deftones have carved out a successful career that has earned them one Grammy award with more than 10 million albums sold worldwide. Made up of band members Chino Moreno, Frank Delgado, Stephen Carpenter and Abe Cunningham, they pioneered the nu metal genre along with the band Korn.
Deftones released their first studio album in 1995 under the name Adrenaline, reaching number 23 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. Their second album Around the Fur (1997) charted in both the US and Britain for the first time. In total, they have released nine studio albums to date, the latest one, Ohms (2020), receiving a Grammy nomination.
The band have earned a reputation as one of the icons of alternative rock in this new century, with a sound characterised by punchy bass riffs with drop d tunings or similar alternative sounds. After their concert in Madrid they will be playing at the next edition of the Primavera Sound Barcelona festival.
