The market, erected in 1972 on the site of a former plaster factory, initially sold products grown locally. Today, following a series of remodellings - the latest in 2012- it is an accessible luminous space that offers a comprehensive selection of fresh products together with its gourmet stores and other services such as a hardware shop, a jewellers' shop, and a haberdashers.
Set amidst bell towers and cobbled streets, all roads in this area lead to the market. The Villa de Vallecas market, boosted by the pull of its bars, acts as a public gathering place or square in a district where there is always something going on: fairs, exhibitions, festivities and performances.
Among the market services are home delivery and online shopping.
